MENAINA: AGIAS DU SOL BRASENTE
The Isles of the Blazing Sun are one of the most unique locations in the mediterranean sea: home to a blend of cultures from Lebanon to Genoa, the nation's history is rich and diverse. Mennaine's latin identity came after the Romans conquered the territory from its previous Phoenician owners, establishing it as a part of the province of Proconsular Africa. The collapse of the Roman Empire would see the Islamic Caliphate conquer the isles, though Islam would struggle to spread to the poor and hilly northern region of Collinas or the fierce Christian strongholds of the Aurene people of Mattabaro.Under centuries of Islamic rule, the mennainer lowlands prospered and many cities were founded in the eastern end of the island of Magona, such as Ubada, Badara and Medina. The remaining Mennainer Christians continued to carry their traditions in Collinas, mainly living as farmers in small rural communities. This would change in 1148, when King Roger II of Sicily conquers North Africa, and Mennaine falls into the hands of a new Norman ruling class.Sicilian Hauteville administration is only fully consolidated in Sicily in 1160, when Roger II's legitmized bastard Simon is made Count of Mennaine by his brother William. Under Simon, the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre were invited to establish a fortress, which would eventually become the foundation for the Norman capital of Castellu das Rosas.
